Understanding Potency & Why Native Ceuticals maxes at 1500mg

We’re so glad that you’ve found us! You’ve searched our website, learned our story, read about the importance of buying the highest quality hemp, and now it’s time to add the item or items of your choice to your cart & checkout.

You may have tried our product finder which helped you understand which product and which dosage is right for you and your body. During this exploration, you likely noticed that our absolute max potency is 1500 mg. We do this on purpose and in this Q&A with our Chief Product Officer and Formulator, Steve Brown, he answers all questions to related to why we do what we do.

Q: Why do we max out at a potency of 1500mg cannabinoids?

A: The key is in understanding the WHY of Cannabis.  Why does it work?  The reason CBD helps so much for things like pain and inflammation is because it is interacting with the endocannabinoid receptors found within your body.  Think of it like a bunch of empty cups set out during a rainstorm… As the rain falls the cups can only get filled up with so much rain until they run over with water.  In the same way, each receptor in your body can only be “filled up” so much and any more will just pass through your system.  Through years of experience, we have seen that 1500mg is the tipping off point for most people.  If, in the rare case you need more, we have our tincture bar that can reach higher amounts.

Q: I see other companies offering cannabinoid products well over 1500mg. For example: 3,000mg up to 10,000mg. Why is this?

A: There are two things going on here:  1) some companies are simply using these numbers to distract you from the truth.  They will say things like 10,000mg to get your attention but at closer look you will see that they are not referring to the CBD content, but something else in the product like the amount of hemp seed oil (which has no CBD in it at all) in a single serving.  2) the other instance is about shock value; some manufacturers will add a bunch of CBD isolate to their product to impress you.  More is always better right? Well as we learned in the previous question… not always.

Q: What science did you use to decide most people will not need over 1500mg?

A: At the root, this is an issue of nutritional science.  We already use the same rationale when buying a vitamin or supplement. The amount of a given supplement needed depends on several factors.  Likewise, it is best to think of CBD as a supplement. Some things to take into account when considering which strength you need are metabolism, physical fitness and body weight.  It is generally best to begin at a lower strength and work your way up as needed.

Here are some additional helpful tips on how much to take based off your ailment:

Please note:

    • 500mg- low strength
    • 1,000mg – medium strength
    • 1,500mg – high strength
